Lithium batteries generally offer better energy density, deeper usable discharge, faster charging, and longer cycle life. Lead-acid can have a lower purchase price, but it is heavier and usually needs a larger nominal battery for the same usable energy.

For portable use, lithium is usually the practical choice. Lead-acid can still make sense in stationary, budget-sensitive systems where weight and cycle frequency matter less.
